# On your computer or in the cloud

> Should Claude work on your laptop or up in the cloud? A simple way to decide.

Claude can do its work in two places: right there **on your computer**, or up **in the cloud** while your laptop is closed. Neither is "better" — they're for different moments. And with Orbit, it doesn't matter which you pick, because both share the same memory.

## On your computer

Claude works directly with the files and apps on your machine, with you watching.

**Good when:** you're sitting there, hands-on, doing something now — and you want to see it happen.

**The catch:** it only runs while your computer is on and you're around.

## In the cloud

Claude works up in the cloud on its own. You can close your laptop and walk away; it keeps going.

**Good when:** you want to say "go do this" and come back later — or you've got something long-running.

**The catch:** it's working on a copy in the cloud, not the files sitting open on your desk.

## The simple way to choose

| Your situation | Where |
| --------------------------------------------------- | ----------------- |
| You're working hands-on right now | **Your computer** |
| "Go do this, I'll check later" | **The cloud** |
| Something long or that should run while you're away | **The cloud** |

## Why Orbit makes this a non-issue

Normally, splitting work between your computer and the cloud means the two never see each other's progress. With Orbit, **both save to the same Vault and follow the same decisions.**

* A rule you set applies in both places.
* Work done in the cloud is waiting for you when you're back on your laptop.
* Your dashboard shows everything in one place, no matter where it ran.

So you just pick whatever's convenient in the moment — your memory stays in one piece either way.
